A Love That Lives On
This year’s Father’s Day was a special day. I woke up to a text from Eddie’s daughter, asking if I and her siblings wanted to do something in their dad’s honor for Father’s Day. This is our first one without him, and the thought had been weighing on me. My son and I had already decided to visit Eddie’s resting place, and I had been thinking about asking his three kids to join us. But I’ve been treading lightly, wanting to be in their lives without pushing too hard. So, when his daughter reached out, it truly warmed my heart.
I absolutely want to do something for Father’s Day!
We spent the day remembering Eddie in the best way possible—starting with lunch at one of his favorite restaurants, then visiting his place of rest. And of course, we couldn’t forget Dairy Queen, a tradition that always marked our family travels. It’s a tradition that I know will live on, carried forward by us and, one day, by our children and their children too.

During this incredibly difficult time in our lives, we managed to find moments of solace and even a bit of happiness in being together. For me, it was a day that I truly needed. Looking ahead, I hope to continue building my relationship with Eddie’s children—we are forever connected, not just through marriage, but also through the loss of someone we all loved. For me, this connection keeps Eddie close, and I hope that, in some way, they can see a piece of their dad in me, because the bond Eddie and I shared was deep.
